A Mother's Promise

Source

I hold you in my arms, tight.
I cover you by my eyes.
my little Angel,
my purer soul.
my truest desire.
I keep you in my heart, careful.
I wrap you up in my words.
my little Angel,
my brighter life,
my unborn wishes.
I am scared of the world,
my Cursed Angel,
They don’t want you to come,
They hate you, strong.
They want you to touch.
I am scared of Them, but,
Don’t you lose your sleep.
I be the Knight, my Angel,
Your sharpest Armour.
I’ll bring you to life, to this Hell.
But you’ll make it Heaven,
With you smiles, my little Angel!

This poem is written to express my disapproval of Female Foeticide.

This poem is shared with Theme Thursday and the prompt for this week is Angels.

  1. I like the way the little angel will turn hell to heaven.

BTW, your linky on Theme Thursday is not working. I got here through a comment you'd left on another blog. You may want to try to delete that link and link up again.

  2. Powefully expressed even though I do not share your views under many circumstances. I was unfamiliar with the word "foeticide". It's certainly descriptive.

  7. I don't know what 'foeticide' is. It might have helped me to understand. Could it refer to abortion? Is this about a woman who is denied abortion?

    1. Yes Mary you're right. Female Foeticide is abortion for a unwilling woman only if there's a girl in her womb!!

    2. Ah, thank you for your explanation. I am visiting this poem again in "Poetry Pantry." What a sadness / horrible tragedy for so many mothers and their unborn girls. I am glad that the woman in this poem HAS resolved to give birth.

  11. I actually had to look it up even though I had a vague idea of what it meant. I was surprised to see that it was occurring in India. Up to today I had thought it was mostly just practiced in China. They do it mostly because they have that one child rule and so most of them want a son to pass on the family name and to help support them. The sad thing that was happening is they are not going to have enough women for all those men to marry someday. It showed that this was happening in a few areas of India. When I had my daughters they did not do sonograms and so we did not know until the actual birth which child you were blessed with.

It is very sad that one does not realize that every child is a precious gift. Many couples cannot even have children and so those that do are very blessed. It really does help to have anyone write about these problems and to let us know such things are happening in the world. You are wonderful to do this.

Thanks for doing it for this weeks Angel Theme Thursday. Greatly appreciated. Have a blessed weekend.

    God bless.

  12. Death before birth portrays cruelty.Ironically, it happens in a country where the girl is seen as an incarnation of Goddess ‘Laxmi'...sigh!
May God bless this unborn angel, Sayantini. Are you really expecting...all the best :)

  13. This is so powerful! One woman, every woman--if only women were in charge--really in charge, abortion would be rare and infanticide would be non-existent.

  15. This made me cry... I had to look up foeticide... You have enlightened me, I'm sad to say, but I'm also enraged and confused and then words fail me. I had to read this again and I'm sure I will read it many more times. This is beautifully written and I'm glad that such a lovely voice is being used to speak out against such a horrible inhumane practice.

  16. Very beautifully written!
The mother truly is the greatest strength which the little one can totally rely on. Female Foeticides can be completely eliminated if every girl child gets a mother like the one in the poem and the society realizes that boy or girl , both have equal rights to live.

  17. I can hear the mother warrior speaking in this poem, who will protect her child to the limits of her being. Especially like the closing lines, in which the angel will make of hell a heaven.
