C R E A T I O N

It's my first attempt to Haiku. I always wanted to write a Haiku, if you find any mistake please feel free to correct me by commenting. Say if you like it or not-

C R E A T I O N

Ghastly comes,
A dreadful burst.
Nameless creation of rebirth.

Showers on earth,
Couple of drops.
Begins to defeat again,
Creation of spite.

This is shared with Haiku Heights and the prompt is Creation.

  1. Hi Sayantini,

This one is a very well written poem, the subtlety of words speaking a lot about the magic of Creation. You are a wonderful writer, indeed.

However, if you don't mind, I would say that this is more a poem than a haiku. The rules of haiku are a bit different. A haiku is a set of 3 lines following the 5-7-5 syllable count format. This means that the first line has 5 syllables, the 2nd line has 7, while the 3rd line again has 5 syllables. You can check my link here for more details :-)

I loved the way you described "nameless creation of rebirth". Keep writing :-)

    1. Thank you so much for the suggestion. I actually knew that a Haiku consists of 17 syllables but I didn't know about the 5-7-5 division. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks once again:D

  2. Welcome to the world of haiku ... I like your first take on haiku ... nice poem you've crafted here. Maybe ... just a suggestion ... try to count the syllables as in the classical three line haiku. First line 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables abd the third line 5 syllables. Come visit my weblog ... I write haiku since the late eighties and I started with the classical form. The last 10 years I write in another classical form called Kanshicho. In that form you can loose the 5_7_5 syllable count. Nevertheless haiku is a wonderful form of poetry. Just enjoy writing haiku. Maybe you will become a haiku addict just as the most poets here on Haiku Heights.

  3. Sayantini - Green Speck is right when he talks about 5-7-5. However, there can be other formats as well. The only thing we must care is that the Haiku does not exceed 17 syllables.

  4. Lovely poem you have written. I, too, am new to haiku! I am finding the exercise of writing daily and also reading others' haiku, very helpful in learning the art of haiku. Good luck and keep writing!

  6. Thank you so much everybody for your love and support. I'll write a actual Haiku (which would be more a Haiku than a poem) very soon. Thanks again for inspiring me:D
