An Escape

I came close to a brook,
With unhurried steps, so calm,
My soul thudded little faster,
I searched for you, here and there
And found you alone
On the other side of the fence,
A fence of solitude.
A fence of little thoughts,
A fence of egos, selfishness,
I had to wade through,
To embark on a new life, with you, my
dear
No more squabbles, no more fights
‘Cause you waited there for me
On the other side of the fence.
This poem is written for Mary's Mixed Bag on Imaginary Garden With Real Toads, and the prompt was Fence.
Sweet and tender. It left me with a nice feeling.
ReplyDeleteOne thing, though...hearts can thud faster, but do souls? I'm not feeling that.
Thank you so much for your appreciation.
DeleteI think everything can happen in imagination, hearts thud..souls too!:D
The other side of fence really looks so full of love :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah..it is, indeed:D
DeleteSweet, the reality, the metaphor, the pic. The possibility of people letting themselves be seen despite fencing--an invitation. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Susan:D
DeleteEgos and selfishness are sometimes difficult fences to surmount. I think your poem makes that point very well. Optimistic ending: It seems like the fence of solitude has been overcome. I enjoyed your poem!
ReplyDeleteI admire your comment Mary:D
DeleteThere are a lot of fondness and also expectations on the other side of the fence. Just as much as the grass is greener next door! Beautiful write Sayantini!
ReplyDeleteHank
Thank you very much:D
DeleteIt seems the person on the other side of the fence learned how to stop being so full of ego and learned instead how to love. Love can and does conquer all, mostly. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is the journey, to be brave enough to wade through the obstacles to reach the other side of the fence together. Well said.
ReplyDeleteLovely, sweet write!

ReplyDeleteYou waited there for me on the other side of the fence...love that. Sometimes we have to walk through life's barricades to be able to climb the fence to who and what we need.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susie
